What you need to know about ACUPUNCTURE
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the oldest therapy procedures in the world.
It is originated from China more than 2,000 years ago and has now become better known throughout the world.
The classical Chinese explanation of Acupuncture is that channels of VITAL ENERGY (which is called QI) run in regular patterns throughout the body and over its surface. These QI channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the body. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the flow in one part of the body and restricts it in others.
These QI channels can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points. The acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions at the dams, and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians. The improved energy and biochemical
balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.
The use of acupuncture was first explained in the book HuangDi Neijing or in English : "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine". The title of the book is often mistranslated into "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine".
How does it work?
The Eastern Explanation for how Acupunctures works is that the life vital energy flowing through the body, which is termed Qi, can be influenced and balanced by stimulating specific points on the body. These points are located along channels of vital energy known as meridians that connect all of our major organs. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, diseases arise when the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes unbalanced or is blocked.
Definition of Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points located near or on the surface of the skin which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to achieve the desired effect.
Explanation of How Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture points are areas of certain electrical sensitivity. Puncturing these points stimulates various sensory receptors which, in turn, stimulates nerves that transmit impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary system at the base of the brain.
The hypothalamus-pituitary glands are responsible for releasing neurotransmitters and endorphins, the body's natural pain-killing hormones. It is believed that endorphins are about 200 times more potent than morphine. Endorphins also play a huge role in the functioning of the hormonal system. This is why acupuncture works well for back pain, low-back pain and arthritis, arthralgia and also for P.M.S. and infertility.
The substances relased not only relax the whole body, but they also regulate serotonin in the brain which plays a role in human and animal behaviour. This is why depression is often treated with acupuncture.
Some physiological effects observed throughout the body after acupuncture include increased blood flow, reduced inflammation, relief from pain, relief from muscle spasms and increased T-cell count which stimulates the immune system.
By promoting the body’s ability to heal itself, people usually experience
improvements in several areas of health, not just in the area they are seeking
People respond to acupuncture differently:
Some individuals may feel an immediate improvement after the first treatment, while the others will feel an improvement after several sessions.
Do we use disposable needles?
Yes. We always use disposable needles. The very thin needles we use are specially made for acupuncture and are supplied factory sterilized and individually sealed. The needles are discarded properly after use.
